On behalf of City of York Council, we invite you to join us in marking Holocaust Memorial Day, 2026.

Holocaust Memorial Day is now an established act of commemoration when people from all over the world come together to remember the destruction and devastation caused by the Holocaust and more recent genocides and persecution.

York will be embracing the theme ‘Bridging Generations’ through a programme that seeks to commemorate the past, explore the continued persecutions of the present and encourage positive actions that will make a difference in the future. The event seeks to serve as a reminder that the responsibility of remembrance doesn't end with survivors - it lives on through their children, their grandchildren and through all of us. This theme encourages us all to engage actively with the past - to listen, to learn and to carry those lessons forward.

The civic event of commemoration and reflection will take place on Tuesday 27 January, 6.00-8.00 pm at the Creative Centre, York St John University. Please register on Eventbrite if you wish to attend.

Hosted by the Civic Party, this informal evening will include a speech from Susie Kaufman of the Holocaust Educational Trust and a reading of the ‘Seven Commitments’.

We do hope that you can join us to mark this important event.
